On October 8, a sold-out crowd of 150 guests gathered at The Station in Los Alamos, California, for Reunir with the Rangeland Trust, our signature Central Coast event celebrating the people, traditions, and landscapes that define the Western way of life.
Earlier this month, The Oak Group held its 40th anniversary exhibit, Abiding Legacy, opening at the Santa Barbara Library’s Faulkner Gallery. The show is a collection of 110 paintings and photographs of 10 Central Coast ranches conserved by the California Rangeland Trust. Through this collaboration, 27 plein air artists had the opportunity to experience these working landscapes firsthand and share them with the public through their art.
There’s a particular quality to the morning autumn light, low, gold, slanting through the oaks, sycamores, and cottonwoods
that run along the fence lines and creek banks. As the days shorten, I find myself on these brisk mornings with the
ranchers and landowners, walking property lines and talking through the season ahead. It’s in these conversations that I can feel my excitement growing for the coming pursuits.
Today, Rancho Arbolado represents the next chapter in that story. By
permanently protecting their ranch through a conservation easement with
California Rangeland Trust, the Pedotti family will preserve not only their
agricultural heritage and way of life, but also critical wildlife habitat and open
space.
